This post comes to you from a Reliance Webworld internet hub in Bangalore. As we Bangaloreans would say,'varry cool I say!' Just go in , register and start using broadband.
Trip to Kerala was good. The hotel we had booked in though, turned out to be a disaster. Hoped for a modern kinda hotel room and got an ancient 70s kinda room. Apart from that things were good. We managed to see Fort Cochin, The Jewish Synagogue in Mattancherry and the backwaters of Kerala. We also visited Aj's relatives. They were wonderful except that they were amazed ( just as in my last visit) that I am a vegetarian. One of Aj's uncles said,'you are still a vegetarian is it?' ( the word' still' implying that being married for less than two years to a non-vegetarian plus staying out of India for the same period , makes it manadatory for preferences to change...sigh...). He further went on to say,'oh-ho,this is very bad!'.The best part of the situation - this uncle has had an angioplasty and been told to stay off non-veg food except fish!
We also went to Aj's ancesteral home - called 'tharavad' in malayalam. The architecture was not like an authentic tharavad but it was an amazing house-like it was stuck in time. Roofs made with wood fortified with cane, red oxide flooring and numerous doors leading to the garden around. Pictures of Nehru, Lincoln and Gandhi were still up on the walls. It was really something.
Day before yesterday we went to my hometown near Mysore. Another town stuck in time.More on that in the next post. We have taken loads of pictures and I need a proper line to put them up...
Also been watching all the tennis and cricket. Tomorrow- I am off to watch 'Rang de Basanthi'. Reviews so far seem to be good. Next post in two days.
