Whale Rider

We finally decided to become members of the local video rental place . Saw two movies over the weekend. This is the first movie.

Whale Rider- a movie with a simple theme and fantastic cinematography! Set within a Maori community in New Zealand, the movie takes us through the journey of a young girl ,Paikea (played by Keisha Castle-Hughes-she is fantastic for a 13 year old) , who has to fulfill her destiny,which is closely linked to her grandfather's dream.The merging of reality and myth is subtle and believable. A must see for everyone, especially if you like women oriented movies.The themes,however, are universal- guaranteed to hold the attention of all who are watching. All the lead roles are played by actors not very well know in Hollywood and, therefore,is fresh.
